Oddly, this is not a series I've ever gotten into -- haven't even played the original WW2 games despite really enjoying Medal of Honor. I did install Modern Warfare but don't think I moved past Pripyat.
I played several versions with friends and even played 'Modern Warfare' on my own - against REAL people - which was unusual for me. After my initial annoyance of constant spawn killing I enjoyed it quite a lot. When playing with 4-5 other people on comms it was a LOT of fun. We were very competitive with shooting down call-ins. Our moto (which we lived up to) was 'If it FLIES it DIES'.
Did CoD let people fly aircraft and such like Battlefield? (I played BF 1942 and a little of Vietnam, but GREATLY preferred the maps of 1942 given that they weren't all one river-laden jungle after another. Also played Star Wars Battlefront which used the same mechanics but in...um, very different settings.)
Not in the games I played. I'm not sure about now (but I think you can musing on it). Purely infantry in my experience. I did like Battlefield 2 zooming around in Humvees causing mayhem. It was a MUCH shouted thing on comms NOT to spawn on Cyberkitty... FAR too dangerous if I was driving anywhere!! [lol]
