Sims 4 didn't even have the university expansion pack until November of that year. Fake news. OTOH, some sims can randomly get a "It's like someone is controlling me" moodlet that bothers them. Of course, the first two games broke the fourth wall more effectively -- they'd have sims LOOK AT THE PLAYER when refusing orders.
Never played it - but I did wonder, more than once, if game characters had or even potentially could have a 'real' life when they're not being controlled by the User. Over time they have Xperience & stuff. You can imagine them 'learning' and eventually becoming at least partially self-aware.... Imagine that happening and then the 'glitch' being eliminated in the next patch...?
