That is indeed very important. We always read with our children and they loved it. I believe that is one of the reasons that they did so well in school.

I could read pre-school but (rather oddly considering) only really became *obsessed* with reading from around age 14. Although reading certainly wasn't discouraged in my house (although neither were we *pressured* to read which is worse IMO) there wasn't an expectation... It was only when a SF book was literally dropped in my lap that I felt the *need* to read.

We never forced our children to read but they were obsessed from day one. Even in playgroup the teachers told us they had hardly ever seen children so keen on books.

YES!! Eleanor gets fussy about it now and only likes to read before bed, but she's got a million books and wants a million more, so I think we are still doing alright!
