I've been a Veggie now for around 25-26 years and eating out with my Carnivore friends has never bothered me. One time, when we had a new person in our group, we were out at a regular curry place. Newbie saw that I had ordered the Veggie meal and asked me why I was a Veggie. I leaned across the table and said "Because eating meat is WRONG." There was a slight pause in the conversation... and then everyone - except for newbie - burst out laughing and carried on eating.... Funnily, that was the first and last time he joined us for food....

What was it that inspired you to become vegetarian? I ate meatless for nearly 2 years (I still ate eggs and dairy) after my little brother (who was not vegetarian) challenged me about meat eating. I think going back to vegetarian would be harder a second time, but part of me feels like I should.
Partially it was ethical. I'd been thinking about it for a while and I eventually decided that eating a dead animal (that was killed specifically TO eat) just because it tasted nice wasn't a good enough reason. I think the thing that really pushed me over the edge was watching a chunk of meat defrost and bleed into the sink @ my mothers house. It honestly turned my stomach. I don't *miss* meat eating, although my mouth still waters when I smell it cooking. If it was life or death I'd certainly eat it - I'm not crazy - but, for now, its a choice and not a particularly difficult one.
I don't understand why people have something against vegetarians or vegans, it's not as if the rest doesn't eat veggies at all, so what's the problem. I don't eat meat very often and am lactose intolerant, so I often go vegan but nobody ever challenged me because of it.
I've never understood it either. Its almost as if carnivores are *offended* by people who don't eat meat - as if veggies are accusing them of something... I mean *some* veggies have & still do that... But for me, its simply a choice of what to eat. But then a surprising number of people think its OK to get into other peoples lives and criticize them... People are strange [grin]
That sounds exactly right, I always wondered. And the amount of stuff I had to listen to because I don't eat cheese ... Hubby always says, good, more for me. LOL
That makes sense... To this day, I can't stand dealing with raw meat and try to avoid cooking with it if I can.
The sign is so weird. I love steak and hamburgers especially, but I am not going to purposely 'horrify' a vegetarian with my choices. WTF is this nonsense? Ugh.
An attempt at humour?
