That's certainly ONE reason why I posted it! War is a **really** stupid way to settle a problem. I'm amazed sometimes that we still do it & expect it to work out somehow....
True, and I think Bismarck had a particular genius for it. The question what happened in 40 years to make the nations of Europe begin to commit suicide and stick to it for four long years. Perhaps it was the role of mass communication constantly keeping the war on everyone's minds, whereas before news was more confined to elites?
I never did but I looked into the eyes of those who lost loved ones during wars (including both my grandmothers) and I would have known anyway what a bad idea a war is.

Didn't stop the kanzler from starting multiple wars and creating a united Germany..
No, but generally (at least in THAT period) they seemed to know what they were doing, doing it well, and keeping things short.
