I had my students write a paper about who had the most rights to the lands of Israel and Palestine based on the people’s traditional lands. Then they had to take whatever they argued about Israel/Palestine and apply it to Native Americans and the people of the U.S. Some students stumbled over themselves trying not to apply the same logic. It was an eye opener for them.
Great idea, VV. Many people don't relate their lives to others. As to the natives in America, I once had a student who insisted her family had always lived in the States. I said, I don't think so, she was what you call African-American nowadays, so I said to her I suppose her ancestors were brought over by slaves. She never even thought about that.

Exactly. Like, be so fucking for real. 100 years is NOTHING. Also, we stole their land and that's not really something to be proud of.

It is 'funny' when you get people to apply their "special circumstances" on a universal basis. You can almost see the light pop on over their heads!
But... But... they gave the Europeans food & *invited* them in.... Just like vampires once you've done that... well, we ALL know the consequences.
