The whole 'spat' between Trump & the Pope is SO ridiculous! It was both pathetic and sad when J D Vance said that the Pope should 'be careful' about his comments on Theology... That's pretty much his job AND his area of expertise. Although I'm not a practicing Catholic (in any way) I'd still respect the views of Leo XIV 1,000 times before any of those clowns in Washington.

So true. But what else would we expect from the orange clown?
If you say you are not a practicing Catholic does that mean you are one on paper? Because I am one. And I am sure I know more about theology than both of those idiots together even though one of them claims to be Catholic. Come to think of it, who let him in? ;)

My parents were both non-practicing Catholics and I was christened at a very early age, so I'm 'technically' a Catholic. I understand that there's a process where you can be removed from 'The List' in the Vatican (I'm not 100% sure if that's even true or that such a roll-call even exists) but I can't think of a single reason for doing that. I'll stick with the technicality!

Well, you can be excommunicated for certain "sins" but they cannot throw you out of the church. It just means you cannot receive the sacraments like communion. You'll be Catholic forever, unless you leave yourself.

There was an article in the Washington Post a decade or so ago where they said someone might be excommunicated for not taking communion and I had to laugh at the sheer imbecility of that. The POINT of excommunication is that the person is not in communion with the church until they seek forgiveness for mortal (as opposed to venal) sins....

That does seem rather silly...! [lol]

Thanks Marianne for the vote of confidence!! It's unfortunate that as an American, I have to live with the consequences of those whom voted Trump into office. I'm surprised I'm still sane actually. The circus show otherwise know as Trump's presidency is mind boggling quite truly. Everyday presents new horrors.

Believe me, Lisa, I wouldn't say that about all Americans. Unfortunately, I also know some who voted for him and are still confident he is the greatest you ever had. I don't know how those people get through the day. And I'm sorry for everyone who didn't vote for him and has to feel the consequences of this foolishness. Well, the whole world suffers from it in the meantime, as we feared.
Growing up in post-Nazi Germany, I know exactly how it is when you (and your children) get blamed for something you were not responsible for. My parents were not in school, yet, when HItler was elected, my grandparents did not vote for him, but still, we were always the Nazis. So, be prepared, even your great-grandchildren will get blamed. Grrr.
