No snakes here - that I've *seen*.... I had a patch of lawn @ the front but got rid of it for a mix of light gravel & woodchip. I pick grass out of it from time to time but let other things grow in it. Some of the new arrivals have nice flowers. Zero idea where they came from though!
My back 'garden' I call my "nature reserve". I trim it back when it starts to get aggressive, but mostly leave it to its own devices. I haven't watered it for 30+ years but it seems to be coping more than OK with that....

I do have to cut the grass on occasion because of snakes and such, but mine is a wild one that attracts all the pollinators.
