It's so frustrating... our elected officials spend more time playing political games to ensure their own reelection than they do anything of substance.
It's my biggest argument for term limits on all offices. If someone isn't constantly campaigning to keep their job for 30 years, maybe - just maybe- in their last term they'll say "fuck it" and do something worthwhile and actually stand up for principles rather than donors.

I also think there should be spending limits. You can't spend more on a campaign to run for office than that job pays.

I think people should be picked by Lot. As soon as they start liking being a politician the get fired and the next person is 'elected'.
