I think that most people pretend to be what they feel to be normal. When they get to know and trust you they don't feel the need to pretend anymore - hence they become varieties of strange.... I take it as a compliment that they feel secure enough to be themselves with you.

I don't really think there is a "normal," just a certain level of crazy or dysfunction that you're willing to put up with for the right person.
