Maryland voted to make it legal here in the last election, so in January we can get married, but we're not going to as long as DOMA will penalize us at the federal level.
Yup, it's becoming far more common and acceptable. Little steps I know but eventually it will be seen, as it should be, simply as marriage rather than a sub-set or different flavour of the same.
