They run in some American cities, like Portland (Oregon). Texas (!) tried a system, but it operates in a suburban area so it's a loser money-wise. Does the UK have any 'light' rail?
I'm uncertain about the energy market. I NEVER expected gas to fall as quickly as it did. We're back to 2003/2004 levels now, so the move away from the suburbs and back into cities may stall. Before the oil crash I would have expected to see more light rail, or bus systems imitating it, within decades.
BTW, do you ever listen to The Wired podcast? It's a change for me, listening to people yak about British politics and technology instead of American. Somewhat refreshing.

The price of oil is rather weird lately. Like you I expected the trend to be mainly up rather the violent fluctuations we're getting. Hard to say if it's goods new or bad in the long run though.

Not sure what I was expecting (only knowing it from 70's movies & TV shows but I thought it was rather run-down. Maybe just the bit we were staying in?
I did like a 24 hour book shop and a lovely pub with micro-brewery attached though!

This picture reminds me of San Francisco. I'd like to climb inside it and disappear for awhile.
I think it is SF or the artist is 'channeling' the city. The island in the bay looks suspiciously like Alcatraz for instance.
