The painting is called 'Sub Base Pearl Harbor' by Tom Freeman. The submarine pictured is USS Tautog. On Sunday, 7 December, Tautog was at the Submarine Base when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Within minutes of the first Japanese bomb explosions on Ford Island, Tautog's gun crews went into action and, with the help of Narwhal (SS-167) and a destroyer, shot down a Japanese torpedo bomber as it came over Merry Point.

i didn't notice the rising sun on the tail; now it all makes sense...
