Good advice, but some of the Great War can be blamed on not giving just a little. It would have been nice if, following the Marne, both the Germans and the Entente said "Eh, this is not worth it. Truce?". At that point the ball was rolling downhill, though...
Humanity and Reason rarely go together. But, as you say, to give in occasionally - especially when you realise you're mistaken about something isn't exactly defeat. It's a sign of maturity.
Very much so Mudpuddle. I'm looking forward to finding out the details of exactly how Winston came to power in my reading this year. Presently background reading with a general history of Britain in the 1930's.
