I grew up during the transition. Now I feel VERY unsafe even driving a few hundred meters without a seat belt on. It's the very first thing I do when I get in a car (after adjusting the seat for my long legs). Even if the driver hasn't arrived yet and we haven't moved an inch I'll be sitting there with my seat belt on.
In an alternate universe, the one where this is not a legally admission I started driving a little more without the belt -- just when I'm on quiet country roads, mind you, never in the city or on highways with traffic. It's my rebellious and danger-courting side, I guess. But that is in a different universe and not this one.
@ Sarah: Totally agree. I think it's weird that some people start driving 7 THEN put their belt on. I'm sitting there, strapped up, before the driver starts the engine!

i guess seat belts work... too bad: i harbor a splenetic distaste for them...

I also feel so weird if I get in the car and don't put my seat belt on right away.
@ Stephen: You (alternative reality) rebel you!
