Well, the Late Medieval church tried it.... Didn't really work out for them though!

Fear and curiosity both have their place, as do innovation and conservation. The trick is weighing the odds, reading context to figure out which way we should lean more to.

True, fear is there for a reason - it can keep you alive. Fear of the unknown can often be taken too far though on so many levels. Curiosity (with a hint of caution) subtly blended with scepticism is the way to go I think.

But as you say - its all about balance.
