That was my VERY thought....! Until I looked a bit more closely and squinted a bit with one eye closed.... It's actually an old style thick magnifying glass - the one with the wide shiny metal edge. From the angle it was taken it looks like a spoon (or that's what both out brains interpreted it as!).
I had one too which is why I finally recognised it. It's funny how the brain works. now that I *know* its a magnifying glass that's what I see it as instantly. The spoon has gone!

you're right! fancy that... we have one of those somewhere: if i was a detector i could find it!
