I really like dogs. We had one as a child - German Shepard - although I was very young when he died. My sister later had a 'Heinz 57' mutt who was lots of fun (essentially he was crazy).

Makes my heart so happy. I started reading to Eleanor when she was a six-month-old fetus. Twice a day during the week, more on the weekends, I read Where the Wold Things Are, my fave childhood book. After I brought her home from the hospital my mom was holding her one afternoon and I started reading the book. No lie, Eleanor turned her head in the direction of my voice and didn't turn away or stop looking at me the entire time I read. It is the first book she ever read independently, though it has been memorized since before birth. Now she is reading eight Junie B. Jones/Magic Tree House/ etc books a week on her own.

@ Sounds like you manufactured a 'natural born reader'! Good job!! I am constantly amazed (and saddened) at the lack of reading in the world. It's SO important. Whenever I hear people say - often proudly - that they don't read a tiny bit of me dies inside and I feel compelled to find them a book to start the fire...! [lol]
