Good advice. Of the books where one can read the title, I have read 15. But I've always been a rebel. LOL

Me too! If I'm told that I shouldn't or can't read a particular book I've MUCH more likely to seek it out and read it - especially if the 'ban' makes no kind of sense. I've read only 6 on that list, but I do have a few others and a few more on my Wish List... plus 1 I tried and DNF'd.

There often is a weird reason for banning the book and if someone has a weird reason for banning it, that must be worth checking out. Most books sell a lot better after some idiot bans it.
May I ask which one you DNF?

I sometimes think that 'banning' a book is just a fairly clever marketing ploy.

I DNF'd 'Catch-22'. I *tried* to like it but it was just too much satire piled on top of satire. If it'd been just a bit more subtle it might have worked for me, but I've always had a problem with 'comedy' writing. Mostly I laugh a little bit but I generally find that the authors try too hard to be funny constantly, which really doesn't work for me. Sometimes you just need a pause to take a breath...... [grin]

Well, you get authors that are funny by nature and it is great but then there are others who have to try and that never really works. I finished Catch-22 but I definitely didn't put it on my list of favourite books.

I liked the Douglas Adams 'Hitchhiker's Guide' books which I thought were very funny, but that's rare for me. But I also loved the TV series which appealed to my sense of humour.

Hey, if we can get teenagers to stop snapchatting and whateverelse-ing they do these days and actually touch a book, that'd be a win..

Definitely! That's why, although not a fan, I applaud things like Harry Potter for getting kids into reading.

I totally agree with both of you. My son was an avid reader but many of his friends weren't. As soon as Harry Potter was out, they all read it. And more books like that appeared which was especially great for boys because until then, there hadn't been such a huge choice for them. We were always happy that he read both English and German books, so there were a few more but still not enough. He read adult books quite early because there weren't enough for kids.
