It's astounding to me when I see videos of kids not understanding the technology of their parents. I understood the technology of my parents, and a lot of the technology of my grandparents. Though I do admit having to ask what some household tools were. I think the problem arises from how much technology has changed in such a short time for the current generation. So much that I experienced as a child and teenager will never be experienced by this current generation. I think they've missed out on aspects of social development without social media and technology. I treasure my early teens with my bike, passing notes, and listening to FM radio. It felt more protected.
My sister's kids laugh when I tell them that the Internet didn't exist when I was there age. They've always had it so assume that it's always existed. They can't understand how people managed without it. It'd be like us living without fire.... [grin]
I like the fact that I remember the time before the Internet and so much else that is taken for granted these days. My old office still had a fax machine - not used much but it was there and it worked. The younger members of staff were almost AFRAID of it [lol]
We listened to the radio a LOT in my house growing up. It always seemed to be on. I even remember being entranced by radio-plays.... and don't get me started on listening to late night radio fading in and out with atmospherics... [grin]
Oh late night radio was the best! I could listen to stations up and down the east coast of the US. It was a way of traveling to distant places. I miss that.
As my CD player's broken (old fashioned of me I know) I'm presently listening to Classic FM all day. It's SO relaxing! I used to take a radio into work when we were in on weekend overtime & the other guys didn't like it very much - especially the opera singers!! [lol]
