It was VERY eye-opening reading about the Suffragettes on this side of the pond. They tried *everything* peaceful to get the vote - everything expected of them, and then some. Meanwhile, at least some sections of the Male population got the vote without doing anything. But as soon as they got *loud* - and before they got violent - the Government came down on them like the wrath of God.
What I found most fascinating was what they did next. Not only did they resist in any way they could - they escalated. Some women wanted to go the whole way - NOW - but most simply ramped up, and up.. Stone throwing, window smashing, heckling meetings, setting fire to post boxes, breaking windows & throwing stones at Ministers, setting fire to Ministers country estates and then bombings... There was talk about using guns and even targeted assassinations!! But WW1 came along and everything went on pause for the duration.... Today, the Suffragettes would've definitely been classed as a terrorist organisation!!

Terrorist is often thrown at those rising up against abuse when they’ve been ignored, abused, and silenced for far too long.
'Terrorist' is a *much* abused word and probably always will be.
