I did love the note about the 'evils of off-campus housing' and the 'dangerous proximity of co-eds'... [lol]
My college @ Uni had mostly single sex dorms - one was mixed (a tower block) and most of us was pretty envious of anyone assigned there - but you could easily 'sneak' someone in to your dorm and no one seemed to mind as long as you were somewhat discrete. Of course *off* campus pretty much anything went...
My university was all single-sex dorms, with one residency hall consisting more of apartments. Of course, Montevallo began as a girls-only college. I don't even know what our rules about visitors were -- curfew, that sort of thing. I always saw my friends on campus/around town -- the only time I visited someone was to watch movies with them!
My college, an off-main campus part of Lancaster University, used to be a Teacher Training college so was around 75% women when I attended. So understandably most of the dorms were women only - expect for the tower block (mixed) and 1 of the smallest dorms (male only) where I was in the First Year. I lived off-campus the other two years, although we had the option of on-campus residence for our final year..
