Nope. People should definitely read more History. Plus... It *can* happen here. No one country is immune to the siren call of the so-called 'Strong Man'... I guess its a lesson that we all need to re-learn periodically... Now its America's turn....
From Wiki: By November 1932, the Nazi Party held the most seats in the Reichstag, but not a majority. No political parties were able to form a majority coalition in support of a candidate for chancellor. Former chancellor Franz von Papen and other conservative leaders convinced President Paul von Hindenburg to appoint Hitler as chancellor on 30 January 1933.
So... he was leader of the largest party after a democratic election. No one else could be agreed upon to be Chancellor, so he got the top job... as per the German Constitution at that time...
Oh, they're *definitely* going to be writing books about this... How much it plays in future history classes... Well, I guess we'll see once we live through it. INTERESTING times!

And many people forget, he was elected in a democratic election. People just don't get smarter. :(

Hitler wasn't elected, he was appointed by the chancellor after the NSDAP achieved plurality in the Reichstag. Not the same thing.

It's happening already and nobody seems to notice. At least not those who shout so loud.
You could say the same about Trump. People elected the NSDAP and knew they would elect Hitler that way.
In any case, it was a democratic decision, he came to power and didn't give it up again. Sound familiar?
Well, we'll see who remembers what in 4 years... ;)

Marianne, it's funny when people try to explain the history of your own country to you.
I know, Sarah.
How amazing would it be to have that confidence?

Sounds like it, Sarah.
