Ahem...

It's actually "Be Fruitful and Multiply" from...

"And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."

Which is Genesis 1:28.

Yeah, it's an old passage and it's been used by several Christians to combat things like gay marriage and fight things like contraception. Both of which don’t need to be fought in my opinion.

My problem with the cartoon is I apply the same image of people herding together and going “Moo” every time I stand in any line anywhere for anything. Shoot, those ropes at the movies and theme parks aren’t too far from stockades.

We are a society of grazers. Many people make their decisions based on the movements of the ‘herd’.

We don’t need religion to be bi-pedal omnivores which hopelessly plod through life with Government or Big Business at the gate to the slaughter yard.

Nice... very funny.

As I've always said, it's not what the scriptures actually say that usually matters, it's how they're popularly understood. Which, itself, could be an argument for the herd following unthinking into the abyss. Idiots who think the only purpopse of relationships and marriage is childbirth are simply following the herd. As are people who think the Qur'an says martyrs will get 70 virgins if they die bringing down the infidels.

Most religion (and most religious people I know) are simply grazing omnivores waiting to be told what is right and wrong and what to do next

I think that the cartoon is saying that women in particular are (or can be) treated like baby factories by the big 3 religions - basically treating them as mindless cattle. The posting over @ The Sarcasm was a case in point where a Christian religious sect (IIRC) said that it was a sin against God's Plan *not* to have children. Actually many more children is something this world could do without about now! The last thing we need is to be producing more mouths to feed and more people to consume!

I think its a case of far too many people *not* making any decisions but either drifting along or having other people make their decisions for them. Neither of which is particularly healthy behaviour.

Or misunderstood... [grin].

Definitely wrong headed. What about people who can't have kids? What about people who don't want kids and what about people who don't want a child every 9-12 months.....

Ahhh, thanks for point that out CK. (the part about women being seen as 'baby factories'). I wondered why the entire group was women. My friends and I used to 'moo' (college and High School) every time we were in a long line or waiting for a new movie. It was our way of saying "Yeah, we're here with the rest of 'em but we recognize it for what it is". So this image had past conotations for me.

Laura, I feel for the religious people you know. Most of the ones I know seemed to realize that religion has a very 'personal' and try to find answers for themselves.

That being said, I don't deny that many Christians have never read the bible and quite literally 'do as their told'.

However, my major point for my first post is that you realize that while there are idiots in religion, there are idiots in every other sector as well.

In fact I'd say the overwhelming majority of people on the planet do something that makes little or no sense, but because it's what everyone else is doing, or something they were told to do they don't question it.

That's my only point. Be fair and make sure that everyone gets their 'due'.

Oh you'll get no argument from me that there's idiots in every sector of humanity.

Oh... I think that we can *all* agree on that one! [rotflmao].
