Quite possibly - given enough time... However, in the mean time its going to produce a *lot* of pain & disruption.

Pain and disruption is the grist of the evolutionary mill. We owe our existence to pain and disruption, correct? How can we be accept where it's brought us but resist where it's taking us?

I suppose that's *one* way of looking at it. In another way its a simple numbers game. If you can produce enough offspring that survive long enough to breed then more of your genes will be in future generations than if you produced offspring that didn't make the cut.

Not as far as I know. We owe our existence to our parents sucessfully producing children, as did their parents before them and so on back though time.

LB asked: How can we accept where it's brought us but resist where it's taking us?

I don't quite understand the question. We can however (and indeed do) resist evolutionary processes - we're probably the only creature able to do so. We can now direct our evolution to a slight degree which will grow over time. In the not too distant future will we have complete control over our genome. From that point on evolution will no longer be directionless.
