Just Finished Listening to……

A few of you have expressed an interest (and a modicum of surprise) in my musical tastes. I thought it might help you understand not just my favourite music but what I listen to generally by listing what I listened to this weekend.

So here it is:

The Pretenders – Greatest Hits

Johnny Cash – Ring of Fire

Big Country – Greatest Hits

The Verve – This is Music: The Singles 92-98

Pink Floyd – Echoes: The Best Of

Blur – Midlife: A Beginners Guide to Blur

Various Artists – This is Emo

Bob Dylan – The Best Of

Meredith Brooks – Blurring the Edges

Herbie Hancock – Head Hunters

30 Seconds to Mars – A Beautiful Lie

Skunk Anansie – Paranoid & Sunburnt

Nirvana – Nevermind

That’s pretty much a standard (though reasonably random) set of CDs I’d normally listen to on any given weekend. Although I do have favourites I like to vary things and, from time to time, push out in new directions. I also pick up tunes from friends and family and incorporate them into my existing tastes. I might do this again in a month or so to see what I come up with. Maybe there’s a pattern in there somewhere……?

I have 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 and 13.

Somebody actually made a 'This is Emo' compilation?
Wow.

Actually, first glance, looked like 'This is Elmo'.
Which, let's face it, would be rockin'.

I have Echoes, although it's not in the iTunes library because I have most of it in other albums. Wish You Were Here is coming up in the Longest Since Played list for a replay :-)

Bob Dylan - got a couple of Best Of here. Nevermind - yep and bits of the others too.

Just picked up Kasabian and Ting Tings cds too, the Ting Tings will be the next album I play through.

Johnny Cash! Johnny Cash makes for great listening.

I've got a few of these in my music library... Cash, The Verve, Meredith Brooks, 30 Seconds to Mars, Skunk Anansie, and Nirvana.

I'm constantly listening to Cheap Trick, Kings of Leon, Rise Against, TV on the Radio, Goldfish, and The Heavy. Some of my iTunes playlists are scarier than that though.

I'm surprised by the presence of country music -- I know country-western is popular in eastern Europe, but not elsewhere. Are there artists in the UK who do country-style music?

I can't list my albums because I tend to use the computer for music, and my music there is organized in large genre categories (Eighties Pop, Big Band/Swing, that sort of thing).

Still no Five Finger Death Punch then, very disappointing.

Oh, I think most people have 'Nevermind' don't they - and Tubular Bells.... [grin]

Indeed he does - and Welcome! I've been checking out your Blog since you 'followed' me. I'm sure you'll find something here you'll like from time to time.

Have you checked out the Fantasy, Urban Fantasy & Vampire labels over on the Right?

You mean Mr Cash? I think he's very popular outside the C&W genre. I do like Dolly Parton too - for her amazing singing voice.... and Sheryl Crow is/was kinda Country isn't she? I've got everything of hers.....

I was listening to 'Avenged 7 Fold' last night on Kerrang which I thought was pretty good.....

I haven't listened to any music, done any puzzles or gotten in any recreational reading in at least a month! I need a break.

Ooh, I mistook "Big Country" for an country-western anthology. I don't think anyone considers Sheryl Crow country; she's more of a pop artist, though these days American country music is incorporating a lot of pop elements into its style. Taylor Swift is a teenager whose music has become very popular in the genre, but I hear her songs on pop stations.

You most certainly do, Ms Voyeur. One more full day in work and then I'm free till 4th Jan. Which will probably mean I'll be ill quite soon.... [grin]

[laughs] Oh, No. It's the best of from the *band* "Big Country"....

I just gave 95 essay exams and have to give another 18 on Friday. My grades have to be turned in by 5 on Friday and then I'm somewhat free until the 3rd week in January. Woo-hoo!
