Even middle and upper class ladies where nowhere near as demur and faint prone as later generations made them out to be. There were some seriously tough women in that time period, not only supporting their men all over the Empire (and in other countries) but doing some seriously tough work of their own and on their own. I've come across some in my reading and am searching for more.

I'm impressed how she managed to climb on that rock in that dress and, no doubt, unsuitable shoes.
I think Victorian ladies were bad-ass just to survive in corsets, heels, and all that fabric, with so little oxygen getting to the brain.
