Just back from watching 'Arthur: Legend of the sword' which had showings in 3D (not the one I saw) and its clear that the 3D elements were bolt-on's. The only film I've seen that warranted 3D was Avatar... and that didn't really need it. As you say: gimmick.
Avatar, the Pixar films, and a few other CG movies are ok with 3-D, but I could easily do without it, especially considering the extra cost. My dad saw the Arthur film, not expecting much, he said it was fun. Going to see the new Alien movie tomorrow.

So true. I hope the gimmick of 3-D goes away eventually.

Wasn't impressed at all with Arthur. Not seeing the new Alien film. Looks far too much like a prettier rehash of the original - AKA boring.
Not doing too well with movies this year but did like Guardians 2 and King Kong.
Love Guardians 2, and Logan! The Lost City of Z was boring, with no pay-off. I've seen some good ones that I can't recall right now.
