"Oh, they HATE that ship!"

(Have you seen the new one? :))

@ Mudpuddle: It's the Millennium Falcon - Han Solo's ship from Star Wars. Partially because of the winter scene (again) and partially because the new movies out ATM. I think the Defiant would probably blow the Falcon out of space though!

@ Stephen: Some of the guys are seeing it in about 2 hours. Not me. I've never been a huge Star Wars fan (I certainly don't understand the craziness surrounding it) so don't feel compelled to see it. Didn't see the last 'episode' either, though oddly I did really enjoy Rogue One very much. It's the only Star Wars film I own on DVD.

I enjoyed the first three Star Wars films but thought the next set were definitely of lower quality. I will see Rogue One whenever I can pry it loose from either Netflix or the library.

Rogue One is a departure from the norm, Fred, but features Wash from Firefly as a robot.

@Cyberkitten: Took me a while to get into Star Wars, as I was convinced that Star Trek and Star Wars couldn't mix. You had to be one or the other. The 'sequels' are better than the prequels, production wise, but I like the extended universe timeline better. Snoke is a joke, and the new dark jedi character is waaaay too pouty. Admiral Thrawn from the books makes them both look like farces.

What about Abrams' 'trek' movies? I refer to them as the Abrams space movies with Trek references, since they're missing the wonder and speeches from the show.

@ Stephen: To me Rogue One is what Star Wars should be like. A war film in the Star Wars universe. *So* much better than the others.

The Phantom Menace was without doubt one of the worst films I've ever seen. Why I saw the next two is beyond me.

I grew up on ST:OS and have a great deal of time for almost all of the incarnations of the franchise. TNG started off poor but got better, DS9 was generally OK and Voyager was often very good. Enterprise wobbled but then started to get very good just before they cancelled it.

I watched the first of the new Star Trek movies and hated it. The trailers for the next two didn't exactly fill me with enthusiasm so I've avoided them. Likewise the trailers for the new series have seriously underwhelmed me. So far at least I haven't watched a single episode and haven't felt the loss. I'd like to watch 'The Orville' though. That looks just like ST:OS!!!

@Cyberkitten: AOTC was my first movie after becoming interested in Star Wars. It had the virtue of Padme Amidala.

I've seen chatter about ST Discovery and The Orville on Trekbbs, but haven't paid attention to them. ST Discovery doesn't seem to be taking off with the fans, as far as I can tell. I'd say the current world is just too cynical for Trek's optimism and general spirit, but then again we're just the people who need the original series' hope and depth.
