Big Brother is watching... it's not paranoia if one is actually being watched,... is it?

Nope. You should always assume you're being watched by someone... at least in the UK.

I watch a lot of British police procedurals, and they seem to have covered the country in cameras. I wonder how accurate that is.

@ Fred: Oh, there are LOTS of cameras here.... LOTS. All shops and supermarkets have them, car parks, some private homes, banks (obviously), a lot of cyclists have them on their helmets or bodies, the police have them as do traffic people and, presumably both ambulance and the fire department too. My bus in the morning has at least 5-6 in/on it. In London it's much worse of course but even in my town I'm probably on camera 20+ times a day every day.....

CyberKitten, the ones that play a predominant role are those on highways and external cameras on city streets.

@ Fred: Not forgetting that the highway cameras also (often) have car number plate recognition software attached so they can track vehicles automatically.... Newer systems on the street have face recognition too and they're developing programmes that can 'predict' criminal behaviour before it happens and automatically call the police to nip it in the bud! It makes me feel all safe and fuzzy...
