I am a bit of a UFO fan so I appreciate the picture. I think that the series would be a good candidate for a reboot.

Impressed (as always) Brian that you knew the TV show! I didn't really think it made it outside the UK. I must admit I did have a 'thing' for Lt Gay Ellis (AKA Gabrielle Drake). It was always a plus when she was in an episode. UFO dates quite badly (I recently watched it again on DVD) but might indeed be worthy of rebooting if they get the cast and stories right. Overall it was a pretty good premise and worked well for its time.

It was shown here in the United States on television at least through at least the early 1990s. It still has a bit of a cult following. The mix of campiness and groovy psychedelic future designs seems to still appeal to people. I still love the theme song. It was made by the same folks who did Space 1999, another show that I would like to see rebooted.

I think Space 1999 was my least favourite of the Gerry Anderson series. I've recently been re-watching some of the early puppet stuff (before they went live-action) from my childhood. Most don't stand up to scrutiny decades later except (IMO) Thunderbirds. I think something like that could be very good if done right.

Eleanor so desperately wants purple hair. Perhaps a wig is the way to go...

I never understood the purple wig thing. The women only wear it on Moonbase (the men just have their natural crew-cuts) and I can't remember any mention of why - like its part of the uniform or something. Weird.

UFO.

UFO is a 1970 British science fiction television series about the ongoing covert efforts of a government defence organisation to prevent an alien invasion of Earth. It was created by Gerry Anderson and Sylvia Anderson with Reg Hill, and produced by the Andersons and Lew Grade's Century 21 Productions for Grade's ITC Entertainment company.

A single season of 26 episodes (including the pilot) was filmed over the course of more than a year; a five-month production break was caused by the closure of MGM-British Studios in Borehamwood, where the show was initially made. Production then moved to Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. UFO was first broadcast in the UK and Canada in 1970, and in US syndication over the next two years.
