I wonder if the planets have ever been aligned so neatly...probably not at the same time, but when Voyager did that slingshot in the seventies I think they kept lining up just right for it to be possible.

@ Mudpuddle: Isn't it just? Simple but stylish.

@ Stephen: Apparently not. I know there was a great fear among certain communities that a total alignment would cause issues on Earth but they simply don't understand gravity..... Inverse square law for the win and all that. Sling-shotting is a great way of getting around if you have the time (rather than the energy) available. Clever but obvious once you work out basic orbital mechanics. To get anywhere at reasonable speeds we need MUCH better engines!

some sort of quantum gap optimizer: squeezing in between the nuclei as it were to take advantage of the worm holes left by the ancients... i've been working on it... (i actually had a great uncle who lived in LA and spent his retirement riding his bicycle around looking for parts to fit the flying saucer he was building in his back yard... great uncle William: one of a kind...)

@ Mudpuddle: Did your great-Uncle complete the Saucer?

@ Sarah: Indeed. Picking on the little planets. Bullying I call it.
