@ Stephen: The assassination was incredibly stupid thing to do. I can't understand why they killed him (apart from the fact that he was a very effective enemy) and they MUST have been aware that Iran MUST retaliate.... and then....? War? ANOTHER one?
It looks like he's restraining himself for the moment. Perhaps Iran's pride has been appeased for the moment, but one can never tell. I recently finished a good book on foreign policy in which an Iranian minister stated in an interview that pursuing nuclear capability was never financially worthwhile: it was done purely to assert Iran's independence, to demonstrate that it would not budge to outside pressure. Another minister working in the Ahmandijad ministery said that had Iran and the US gone to war, Iran would have lost -- but the US would have destroyed its own ability to do anything in the ME, aand that would be worth it because Iran would rebound.
