I have this picture but with a different captain....the parents are the United Kingdom, and the colonies (Canada, Australia, etc) are the kids. Guess which one America is. ;-)

I wonder what the world would be like if we hadn't lost the American colonies? I wonder if we'd be the Anglo-American Empire like the Austro-Hungarian.... It's a thought.....

@mudpuddle: There is! "The Two Georges", by Harry Turtledove. The title comes from a famous painting which is stolen (I think), which featured General George Washington kneelnig before his sovereign George III. Turtledove used the mystery to include a lot of silly what-ifs, from Zepplins to steam-powered cars. I remember it as fun, mostly, but I've so soured on Turtledove over the years I hesitate to reccommend it property.

@ Stephen: I had a HORRIBLE thought that 'Turtledove' would be the answer to that one! Plus I actually HAVE that book (presently unread).... [lol]
