I miss these so much. My friend has an old cabinet like this - she has some amazing antique pieces, and I am obsessed with finding one of my own. The last one I saw was $400 and I just could not afford it.
I've spent many a happy hour in the card indexes of various libraries over the years. I've no idea what their librarians thought of me but I found a lot of interesting books to ask for at the desk!

I wonder how many of these units are sitting in library basements. It has not occurred to me until this very moment to ask.
@ Sarah: Probably a lot. Ask at your local library. They might be happy to give one to you if you can haul it away!
We have something like 15 libraries in our library system, there has to be one somewhere!!
