I just discovered a Youtube channel you might get a kick out of -- "Jay Foreman". He has historical videos on different aspects of London, like the history of its bridge(s), its struggle with cycling infrastructure, and so on. Very funny!
@ Stephen: I haven't read any specific history of London but I do have a few books on my Wish List that you might want to check out.
London In The Eighteenth Century: A Great and Monstrous Thing London In The Nineteenth Century: 'A Human Awful Wonder of God' London in the Twentieth Century: A City and Its People
All by Jerry White
The Subterranean Railway: How the London Underground Was Built and How it Changed the City Forever by Christian Wolmar and
Violent London: 2000 Years of Riots, Rebels and Revolts by C Bloom

@ Stephen: Indeed... VERY funny! Our history is endlessly fascinating and we have SO much of it!
Is there a definitive "history" of London you'd reccommend? I'm considering "The City on the Thames".
