Funny how that works, isn't it? Luckily for the world, I will never NOT give my opinion. Especially when my and Eleanor's rights are so quickly taken away with the stroke of a fucking pen.
I did rather wonder about the whole Roe mess and about the other decisions coming down from the Supreme Court. Their timing is WAY WAY off. Shouldn't they have waited until AFTER the mid-terms? Surely pulling shit like they have is going to energise the Democratic based MUCH more than it would've been traditionally at this time in the election cycle?
The base is energized but the Dems themselves are fucking worthless at this point. It's ridiculous. The whole 'vote Blue no matter who' campaign is trash, and that's how we ended up with Manchin and Sinema, who are garbage. We need to vote in actual progressives who will do shit, not centrist Democrats who like the status quo as much as the centrist Republicans do.
The court term begins in October of each year and they typically release opinions in June, so it's not unusual. Have you read much of the decision? Fucking Clarence Thomas (whose wife was heavily involved in January 6th) mentioned other cases that he feels need to be revisited, though other members of the majority said this decision only applied to Roe. I fully antipate challenges to gay marriage and contraception to come. Who knows what else. I can't imagine they would go as far as interracial marriage also. That would be absolute suicide.
As much as I despise the Republicans I also think that the Dems are WEAK. They seem to be terrified to move too 'FAR' Left - which is exactly what a lot of their voters WANT them to do! If I was a Democratic voter I'd be very frustrated. What makes it worse is that the Dem politicians (supposedly) have zero idea what they're doing wrong!
I didn't read the Thomas decision but I picked up the implications from the news reports. Contraception is definitely next and same-sex marriage is definitely in danger. You can imagine what will happen if the Republicans get back in power again....!
