OT but related to your genealogical interests...I did 23 & Me to see if I had any genetic markers for kidney disease, as well as some curiosity about my mix of Germanic (Anglo-Saxon) versus Celtic ('native British', if you will) ties, and the possibility that I might have some Eastern European ties, particularly Ashkenazi Jewish and/or Polish ancestry. Turns out I am....very United Kingdom-y. The Anglo/Celtic split is roughly 60/40, with a BIG Irish presence. No wonder I like the Corries and Dubliners so much. ;-)
With Climate Change I think that fence builder has a BIG future ahead of them!
Interesting DNA results! The Irish/Celts did get around though, so it's no huge surprise that you have good chunks of their DNA. When did your ancestors arrive State side? I've found various ancestors that arrived there from at least the 17th century onwards and settled anywhere from Illinois to Utah.
No idea on that part. Furtherest back I've traced my ancestry is a maternal grandfather joining the 6th South Carolina during the Civil War, from York County SC.

@ Stephen: Some of my ancestors fought in *our* Civil War too... but on the ROYALIST side..... What a thing to live down! Some of the survivors apparently then moved to the 'colonies' to settle and never came back. I'm still amazed how far you can track your family back.
Oh, I don't think the Interregnum was quite *that* bad! A lot of the bad press was because of later Royalist propaganda. At the very least the Civil Wars got rid of the idea forever of absolute monarchy. It's a pity though that republican England couldn't have lasted a few generations to get the idea baked in. The political landscape of that period was both fascinating and very forward looking - with people like the Levellers and real ideas of proper democracy & even gender equality being talked about seriously. It was a time of great promise....
It took me awhile, but I found a commenter on this picture who said the base of the fence sits on top a retaining wall that is higher than the water, but you can’t see it from the angle of this picture.

I'd take sides against Puritans, too, if the alternative was between a corrupt monarch and something like Iran's guardian council..
