Naïve of me I know, but I'm still surprised (and saddened) by the number of people across the globe who believe that if they elect a 'strong man' and give him enough power then he'll lower petrol prices (or whatever the particular bugbear of the moment is) and do *nothing else*. So, there will still be a free press, still political opposition parties, no clamp downs, no early morning arrests, no tanks on the streets... Just lower prices and a person with a great deal of power working purely for the benefit of the downtrodden... Yeah, like *that's* going to happen. Know your History people! Sheeeeesh...
Well, they don't. And they believe there was only one evil man in the world. If they believe, in fact, that he was evil. And many of them don't even mind all those actions, they don't think it would affect them. Poor idiots!
I guess its true - The only thing we learn from History is that people don't learn from History. Imagine the level of civilisation we'd have if cultures did that? Historians and history teachers today must be really quite depressed...
@ V V: Unfortunately I can't see much changing for a while yet..... Probably a LONG while..... The only thing you can hope for presently is that Trump (or a Trump clone) doesn't win in '24. Of course that might be the shock the system needs to get over the ideas they're spouting.....
