They don't allow the public to wander freely. There are (or were, at that time) a set number of tours per day, and I'd arrived too late for the last one despite it only being 3 o'clock or so. This was the same week I did 20 miles around Sedona, though, so I can't too much complain.

I've been there. Very close call, to be sure. Unfortunately I wasn't able to hike the rim. :(
Shame that the dino killing asteroid crater is under water. What a sight THAT would be!
Large impact craters are VERY impressive. I certainly wouldn't like to be ANYWHERE near one when it arrived!!
