This is so painfully accurate. And I get it, because in the South they don't have tons of plows to put down salt and sand and brine. Or coats. I still haven't started wearing a coat yet!
I was in Newcastle (in the north-east) years ago in Uni when my southern friend was AMAZED that girls on a night out were wearing T-shirts. It was *snowing* and they didn't seem fazed at all. I'm originally from the north-west and do laugh at southerners who complain about the 'cold' when its still above zero...
Oh absolutely! When we went out in college, we never wore jackets or coats, the alcohol kept us plenty warm! The high was about 35 today and it was great compared to the -40!
There's several Indian families around here & I feel SO sorry for them when it gets ACTUALLY cold! They seem to suffer quite a bit. They certainly wear BIG heavy coats when most locals are walking around in thin jackets. It was FUN though, watching them introduce their kids to *snow* last year. The kids really didn't know what to make of it. They were super excited though. You could hear their screams and laughing for ages as they raced around and made their first ever snowballs!!
That joy would be so much fun to see. I saw a TikTok the other day of a man from, I think Ghana, seeing snow for the first time. The look of joy on his face was so beautiful and I was so happy for him.
I don't know what 8C equals here because in the US we only talk about celsius and the metric system for like, 10 seconds in our entirety of education Kindergarten-12th grade :-|
