Happy Birthday: Guy Fawkes (13 April 1570 – 31 January 1606), also known as Guido Fawkes while fighting for the Spanish, was a member of a group of provincial English Catholics involved in the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605. He was born and educated in York; his father died when Fawkes was eight years old, after which his mother married a recusant Catholic.

Remember, remember the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and plot; for there is a reason why gunpowder and treason should ne'er be forgot.
..and only born a week after me.... [grin]
The last honest man to enter Parliament, I'm told.
[lol]
It's interesting how the Gunpowder Plot still gets 'air-time'. I suppose its because all 'sides' can make their point through people like Fawkes and his crew. Clearly he was a terrorist by today's standards (and at the time!) but you can *understand* why they tried to do what they did.
"V for Vendetta' was an especially fascinating appropriation of Fawkes. Absolutely inaccurate, but nonetheless effective.
Over the top, but I really liked that movie.
Yes! And not just because it has Natalie Portman. That was the reason I watched it for the first time, but not why I keep re-watching it..
Not a *huge* fan of Portman, but I thought she was excellent in it. She really surprised me. Its a VERY good story very well told.... even if a *little* over the top at times. LOTS of nice imagery & some memorable quotes.
