So true.

So many people forget that its usually low paid workers who *make* the things they enjoy and its the Capitalists who skim the (often considerable) profits from their bank accounts. You just have to wonder how much a £1K iPhone *actually* costs to produce and get into your hands. I guessing it's *nowhere* near £1K!!

Many people believe what they want to believe. And it's always unjustice against themselves.

I always think that people believe what they want to believe and what makes them most comfortable - including ME of course - which is why I *try* to think about the reasons I believe what I believe and try to base them, as much as possible, on identifiable facts. It's not easy!!

That distinguishes you from those who just don't want to believe in THEM. And THEM is whoever they dislike. Or get told to dislike.

A BIG red flag for me is when someone is *certain* about, well, anything! I DOUBT pretty much everything. If I became certain of something/anything I'd immediately start digging into it as I'd strongly suspect I was wrong about it! [lol] Welcome to the inside of my head....

Very true. When I grew up, we only had a few non-fiction books where we could look up stuff and we would use that all the time. Now, we have Google and you would think, people know more. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I love checking out almost everyting. My youngest was once ask whe he always googled everything and his answer was: Because I can. ;)

I'm still a little dumbfounded & a bit saddened/amused by a comment I had in work. I was reading at lunchtime (as always) and one of my team asked me what I was reading. It was a basic book on Economics. Why are you reading that? they asked. Because I don't know very much about the subject I said. They were puzzled for a moment, then said: Why do you want to read about something you don't know much about.... I had trouble processing that idea. I've always thought that being ignorant about something is an *excellent* reason for wanting to know more about it!

When I was reading a biography of Stalin in high school, my mother reacted as if my trying to understand a monster meant I admired them. It's like people think if we don't study things they'll go away on their own.

*Exactly*. Ignorance isn't strength - it's just ignorance. What you don't know CAN kill you...... There's a lot of uncomfortable truths out there. I've always thought that its better to be uncomfortable in my knowledge than 'at risk' in my ignorance.

Plus knowing stuff is FUN.

I totally agree with both of you. If we don't try to understand what's behind it, we cannot fight it. Not Stalin or any of the other dictators but we are not that likely to repeat the questions of our elders. I read "Mein Kampf", I knew he was the worst kind of person that ever lived but I wanted to know. And I still think he was the worst kind of person that ever lived. And not a good author. Anyway, my grandfather had read it before WWII and he had warned everyone not to vote for him because "he only wants war". And we can see that when we read what people say today. Unforutnately, there are a lot of people around nowadays who would vote for the next AH. :(

I really don't mind if people are ignorant about any particular subject or person. Afterall, you can't know everything about everything no matter how hard you try! What I find harder to forgive (or comprehend) is *wilful* ignorance. I can *kind* of get my head around the motivation behind not wanting to know something because you (often rightly) suspect that it will upset you or even (if you're lucky) make you start really questioning your prejudices, but still...

Oh, and yes. Unfortunately there are people out there who think an AH style dictatorship would be a 'good thing'. Ignorant fools just doesn't cover it...

True. It's alright if you don't know anything about a subject. But don't go and claim you do, that*s what I don't like. People who have no idea about something but claim they are the masters.

...especially after 5 minutes of 'research' on Twitter or Facebook..! [lol]

Oh, those are the worst!
