It never caught on in the 50's probably for good reason. Of course that was also the ago before seatbelts, so..... [grin] I think wheels work well enough until they get rid of drivers all together.
I'm thinking about, if you're in an accident and slam into the wheel, this one could do a lot more damage because it is not attached all around like a regular steering whell? I don't know. But I will always think of the worst thing first.

I think that was one of the major objections to the design.
Makes sense. I would love to not be impaled by my steering wheel - especially if I otherwise would have survived the wreck.
