Oddly, it doesn't seem to be much of a problem elsewhere... UK, Europe, Canada... Mexico..... It's almost as if something is preventing the FDA & the CDC from doing anything about Bird Flu..... I see that its already jumped to cattle, cats & humans (through raw milk)... Covid 25/26 anyone?
Hence the peril inherit in CAFOs. One outbreak and huge populations are slaughtered. It's why Wendell Berry was writing in the 70s and 80s that food centralization is dangerous to food security.
It does seem to be worsened by HUGE chicken 'farms' under cover... But not to worry, I hear you're importing eggs from Turkey & South Korea... Presumably *without* tariffs! [grin]
Richest & most powerful country the world has even known... and they can't even get their own egg production right... But then again it's not like we humans have been producing eggs for all that long.....
They approached the Germans, as well, as they did several European countries, I am sure. The trouble is, we don't wash our eggs and have no machines for that, so they would have to sell the eggs like we do - unwashed. A lot better because the dirt on the outside prevents a lot of germs getting in. Another thing they can't understand.
Apparently American's visiting the UK or Europe can't understand why our eggs are just sitting their on the shelves and not in the fridge.... because, as you say, we don't was them in nasty chemicals so their shells are intact and they don't need to be chilled to stay fresh and healthy. Not sure what they'd do at their end if our normal eggs turned up!?!

It's pretty much all we deserve at this point.

Funny how that works, right? I hate it here.

They'd require us to treat them the way they do. And so, we can't send them any.
