I'm guessing if I beat up all the suspicious-looking men standing around, one of them will tell me how to get into the basement lair -- on accident, of course. That's been my experience with Team Rocket and such....

Or by 'hacking' into their computer system that is somehow connected to *everything* by breaking through multiple 'firewalls'....

Oh, and I've never understood the phrase 'on accident' rather than 'by accident'. Do you know the origin of the difference?

I hadn't thought of it before, but the intrusive AI that starts yapping every time one does a search these days tells me it's relatively new, and its usage is most strongly associated with Gen Z. I feel deeply ashamed.

According to this, Americans in my generation are prone to using either/or. I'm not even conscious of using one or the other, and I tend to use older language ("owing to" rather than "because of") so it's odd that such a neologism would have snuck into my tongue.

Personally I think that AI is *well* over-hyped and *far* too trusted. Hopefully we'll get over it at some point and it'll just become part of the background - just before it becomes self-aware and kills us all.... [lol]

Language is a funny and endlessly fascinating beast. Even when we're apparently speaking the same language there are cultural and generational differences that need to be taken into account. Trying to explain words and phrases you use all the time to a non-native speaker is a good way to find out if you actually understand your own language... We've been surprised several times in those conversations!
