Indeed.... Its never good 'optics' or a good idea to gold plate statues in the capital when people in your country are having to choose between feeding their kids or filling the fuel tank in their car. That NEVER goes well!
It's also never good to live in luxury while many in the country are hungry. Oh, well, you can always blame it on the foreigners. And people still believe it! Aaaargh!
