I think to begin with her paintings were publicly acknowledged to be by her male partner at the time. There was a movie about it (not seen by me) some years ago.

the artist who painted kids with big eyes... can't recall his name now, but he had a brief surge of popularity maybe 30 or 40 years ago...

..and of course this is a piccy of young Wednesday Addams played by Christina Ricci who *nailed* that role in her two Addams Family movies.
