I just realized my first review of Confessions was posted on March 3, 2011. Ain't THAT quite the coinkydink.

I'm very close. I have a review written but I'm waiting to see if the last 10% changes anything.

Looking forward to the debate.... I'm guessing that you liked it more than I did. [grin]

Once I got past the neo-Platonist stuff. My review has a section that compare my 2011 review (which I'm guessing will be similar to yours ;-) ) to my 2026 experience. The midsection was the hardest going.

I did find a few interesting bits.. and one bit actually made me LOL... Plato has a LOT to answer for in Christian thinking - and not in a good way. But then again I'm no huge fan of Plato. I think he's overrated. I'm much more on 'Team Aristotle'.

The world of Ideal Forms has always mystified me. I think I almost got it once, when I was in college, but when you don't work and have most of the day just to read and think, that sort of thing comes easier..

The whole Forms thing never made sense to me either. It *sounds* pretty at first blush... but when you start thinking about it you hit problems. Its an idea without any real foundation except wishful thinking. Its an invention created to answer a problem that never existed in the first place.
